History
Exto Partners invests in early stage Australian businesses that develop and commercialise innovative products and services that have the potential to transform established industries and deliver significant financial returns for investors.
The Sydney-based company was founded in 2003 by Peter Hammond and Will Deane when they met working in New York. Both shared a passion for business and a desire to build high performance Australian businesses with global potential.
Since foundation, Exto Partners together with its co-investors have invested over $45 million and achieved an annual Internal Rate of Return in excess of 50 per cent, without any leverage.
Investment Approach
Unlike other private equity and venture capital firms, we do not subscribe to the theory of focusing on total portfolio returns. We do not assume some investments will fail and hope the poor performance will be outweighed by one or two big successes.
Exto Partners concentrates on building core value in each of its portfolio companies rather than relying on financial engineering. We establish innovative, sustainable and high growth business strategies and invest heavily in both people and systems to enable each company to successfully execute on the strategy.
We have a strong focus on investing in early and growth stage businesses. Our investee companies operate in a variety of industries including technology, industrial and commercial healthcare, safety technology, biotechnology, smart energy systems, fitness and education.
Every company in the portfolio has the following characteristics:
- Strong management teams aligned to the shareholders’ goals
- Operate in high growth global industries
- Strong intellectual property providing strong barriers to entry
- Great products that have a global market opportunity
- Commitment by shareholders and management to invest in people and technology required to underpin performance.
